James Hatton is a commercial solicitor with 22 years experience in assisting companies to exploit the value of their intellectual property assets, focusing on licensing and related transactions. James is the partner responsible for the Technology Group at Farris, Vaughan, Wills & Murphy LLP. He provides advice on intellectual property and related matters to, among others, TELUS, MacDonald Dettwiler, Overwaitea/Save-On Foods, The Vancouver Sun and the Greater Vancouver Regional District. James takes particular interest in collaboration agreements between biotech companies and pharmaceutical companies, and has acted for MIGENIX Biotech, Cardiome Pharma, INEX Pharmaceuticals, Forbes Medi-Tech, QLT and Response Biomedical, among others, against large pharmaceutical companies. James is a member of the International Bar Association Committee R (Technology), Licensing Executives Society, Computer Law Association, Association of University Technology Managers, Intellectual Property Institute of Canada, International Trademark Association, and related organizations. Admitted to the British Columbia Bar in 1986.
