SmartCentres and Calloway REIT Create Joint Venture for Mixed-Use Development

SmartCentres and Calloway Real Estate Investment Trust formed a 50 / 50 joint venture to develop a vast tract of land (53 acres) within the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (“VMC”). Located at the intersection of Highways 400 and 7 in the City of Vaughan, the VMC is an emerging urban core within the Northern Greater Toronto Area.

SmartCentres was represented by in-house counsel Joseph Amato, and by Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP with a team that included Gregory Howard, Steven Martin and Megan McLeese (corporate and real estate). Also acting for SmartCentres were Brett Tkatch and Shawn Wolfson and Jeffrey Warren of Blaney McMurtry LLP and Alan Bowman and Ken Saddington (tax) of Goodmans LLP.

Calloway was represented by Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP, with a team of Rod Davidge (real estate); Jack Silverson (tax) and Terrence Burgoyne (corporate).
