Using the Alternative Financing and Procurement model, Infrastructure Ontario, together with Bluewater Health and EllisDon Corporation and its partners achieved financial close on the Bluewater Health Capital Redevelopment Project in Sarnia, Ontario, on October 4, 2007. The $214-million project will expand and redevelop Bluewater Health's Norman Site, and includes the addition of 325,000 square feet of new space, an expanded emergency department and a consolidated maternal infant child program, which for the first time, will offer labour, birthing and paediatric services on one floor. The project will also provide the space for additional acute care beds. Construction has begun and is expected to be completed in 2011.
The building team, led by EllisDon, also includes financing arranged by Pacific & Western Bank of Canada with the assistance of the Gwich'in Tribal Council, an Aboriginal organization that represents the Gwich'in in the Mackenzie-Delta of the Northwest Territories.
