Bank of Nova Scotia Issues Preferred Shares

On March 15, 2005, the Bank of Nova Scotia completed the issue of its thirteenth series of preferred shares by issuing $300 million of non-cumulative preferred shares yielding 4.80 per cent.

The syndicate of agents was led by Scotia Capital Inc. and also included TD Securities Inc., RBC Dominion Securities Inc., BMO Nesbitt Burns Inc., CIBC World Markets Inc., National Bank Financial Inc., Desjardins Securities Inc., HSBC Securities (Canada) Inc. and Trilon Securities Corp.

The Bank was represented by McCarthy Tétrault LLP, under the direction of Deborah Alexander, executive vice-president and general counsel, and Katy Waugh, senior legal counsel, with a team that included Barry Ryan, David Judson, Martha Hundert and Lara Nathans (business) and Gabrielle Richards and Michael Quigley (tax).

Scotia Capital and the syndicate were represented by Steven Smith, Rick Fullerton and Lorraine Lynds (corporate) and by Dan MacIntosh and Tim Hughes (tax) of Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP.
