Encouraging Balance
Our Rising Stars, the leading lawyers under the age of 40, are incredibly impressive for many reasons, not the least of which is their volunteer work. We are midway through video-interviewing them, which in and of itself is an amazing process. Listening to our Rising Stars, one learns that these Winners have often overcome hardship, especially hardship they don't speak about. In a confessional age like ours, this kind of discretion or reticence is remarkable.

It is also encouraging. Leading lawyers are spending their rare moments of spare time leading their firms, corporate departments and chosen charities. We have Rising Stars who are helping out on all kinds of boards and front-line charitable activities. And they are not necessarily chatting about it. Their choice is much more about doing.

Especially for those who are in traditional corporate law positions, volunteer work has often been a way to find life balance. Rising Stars Winners told Lexpert that volunteering brought them experiences and challenges that were quite different from their law careers — and therefore revitalizing. For these Winners who have reconciled their career and extra-curricular activities, Lexpert says congratulations. That is what it is all about.

For those of you who have not found that balance, read on and be inspired
