First Capital Realty acquired Hazelton Lanes, a 205,000 square foot shopping centre in the Yorkville district of Toronto for approximately $108 million, from Hazelton Lanes Inc. Hazelton Lanes is anchored by a 50,000 square foot Whole Foods grocery store, and is located in one of Toronto's most affluent neighbourhoods. The purchase price included the assumption of approximately $58 million in first mortgage debt.
First Capital was represented by its Vice President, Legal, Marta Lewycky, and on the acquisition by Torys LLP with a team led by Graham Rawlinson, and which included Bill Lamoureux (real estate); Jason Gilman (intellectual property) and Molly Reynolds (litigation) and on the loan assumption by McCarthy Tétrault LLP with a team that consisted of Bram Costin and Alysha Valenti.
The vendor was represented by Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP and Aird & Berlis LLP. The Blakes team consisted of Silvana D'Alimonte and Larry Winton and the Aird & Berlis team consisted of Christie McNeill and William Chalmers.
