GFL Environmental Inc. completes purchase of the Anchor Shoring Group

On January 16, 2016, GFL Environmental Inc. (GFL), by its wholly owned subsidiary GFL Excavating Corp., completed the acquisition of the Anchor Shoring Group (Anchor). The Anchor Group includes Anchor Shoring & Caissons Ltd., Banner Piling & Excavating Limited and Crown Drilling Limited.

The Anchor business will expand GFL’s breadth of service, adding earth retention and foundation systems to the soil remediation, excavation and demolition capabilities of GFL’s infrastructure services group.

With the significant number of infrastructure, commercial and residential projects that have been announced for the Province of Ontario in the coming 5 years, this acquisition will strengthen GFL's ability to complete large-scale contracts in these sectors.

Stikeman Elliott LLP acted for GFL under the direction of Joy Grahek and Sue-Lynn Noel at GFL with a team that included Jeffrey Singer, Tim Chubb, Rachel Wasserman and Kristin Kightley (M&A) Jennifer Legge and Shawn Smith (banking) and Kelly O’Ferrall (employment). John Tidball of Miller Thomson LLP advised GFL with respect to environmental matters.

Anchor was represented by Tony Kramreither and Michael Wahl (M&A) of Norton Rose Fulbright Canada LLP. Anchor was also represented by Robert Picard and Queenie Lo of Gardiner Roberts LLP.
