Menkes Sells 50 Per Cent Interest in Transamerica Tower

On September 11, 2001, Menkes 5000 Yonge Developments Ltd. finalized the sale of its 50 per cent interest in the Transamerica Tower office complex to Transamerica Life Canada. Menkes will develop the $120 million Transamerica Office Complex, a 540,000 square foot office building. Construction is projected to commence in the spring of 2002.

Menkes 5000 Yonge Developments Ltd. was represented by Goodmans LLP with a team led by Stephen Belgue and assisted by Luc Bourque (real estate), Jay Feldman and Laurel Vanderjagt (corporate) and Catherine Lyons (municipal). Jules Mikelberg of Goodman and Carr LLP and Adam Brown of Brown Dryer Karol also assisted Menkes in this transaction (land severance and other municipal matters). The Menkes 5000 Yonge team was directed by Peter Menkes, Executive Vice-President, Andrew Hoffman, Vice-President, Operations and Mark Karam, Vice-President Legal and Corporate.

Transamerica was represented by McCarthy Tétrault LLP with a team led by Peter D. Quinn and comprised of John M. Fingret, Gina M. Putman, Karsoen Ho (real estate) and John C. Currie (construction). The Transamerica team was directed by David Boone, Vice-President, Corporate Services of Transamerica Life Canada.
