Outokumpu Oyj Acquires Norzink for US$180M

Outokumpu Oyj, a major international mining group based in Finland, acquired the Norzink zinc smelter near Odda, Norway from Rio Tinto and Boliden Limited for US$180 million on April 17, 2001.

Glen Ireland of McCarthy Tétrault’s London, UK office led the Outokumpu team, which included Robert Brant and Evgenia Ivanova and in-house counsel Timo Sipi. Boliden was represented by Robert McDermott, Sean Farrell and Mary-Ann Haney of McMillan Binch and by in-house counsel Per Anders Kull. Rio Tinto was represented by in-house counsel Sandra Walker.
