Societe generale Acquires Interest in Aluminerie Alouette

A wholly owned subsidiary of Société générale de financement du Québec acquired, on July 5, 2002, a 13.33 per cent undivided co-ownership interest in the Aluminerie Alouette aluminium smelter from Kobe Aluminium Canada Inc. for US$100.5 million.

Société générale de financement du Québec was represented by in-house counsel Bertrand Thibert, assisted by Gérard Coulombe, Catherine Papineau and Francis Desmarais (corporate), Martin Rolland and Pascale Dionne (financing), Christian Drapeau (real estate), Odette Nadon (environmental) and Maurice Mongrain (tax) of Desjardins Ducharme Stein Monast.

Kobe Aluminium Canada and Kobe Steel, Ltd. in Japan were represented by Stikeman Elliott, with a team that included Erik Richer La Flèche, Alain Massicotte, Geneviève Lavertu and Thomas Lellouche (corporate) and Richard Rusk (environmental).
