Toronto Life Defends Lible Action

Toronto Life Magazine was recently successful in its defence of a $2.75 million action brought by Patrick Boyer, a former member of Parliament. The trial was heard before The Honourable Madam Justice T.M. Dunnet. The action was brought to an early conclusion after 6 days of trial when a successful motion for non-suit was brought on the basis that the words complained of did not bear a defamatory meaning. An appeal of Justice Dunnet’s decision has been filed on behalf of Mr. Boyer.

Toronto Life was represented by Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP whose litigation team was headed by Howard Winkler and Odette Soriano. The plaintiff was represented by Clifford Lax, Q.C., of Lax, O’Sullivan, Cronk.
