Partner and a member of the firm’s corporate commercial group and transportation team. Joel regularly advises clients in the transportation industry with all aspects of corporate commercial and regulatory law matters, including private debt and equity financings, mergers, acquisitions, take-over bids and venture capital transactions. He has served as lead counsel in numerous leveraged buyouts and going private transactions, as well as in private equity, mezzanine, and senior debt financings. Joel is frequently involved in advising US and foreign clients on the acquisition and disposition of Canadian subsidiaries. Joel is a member of the Canadian Transport Lawyers Associations, Transportation Lawyers Association and the Association of Transportation Law Professionals. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Transportation Lawyers Association in recognition of continued dedication and service to the association and the legal profession (2000). Joel has participated as a lecturer, panellist and educator in programs involving transportation law. Called to the Ontario Bar (1968) and appointed Queen’s Counsel (1983).
