Lisa Mills is an experienced pension, benefits, and executive compensation lawyer, and a founding partner of Brown Mills Klinck Prezioso LLP. Lisa is based in Ottawa, and provides ongoing advice to numerous federally- and provincially-regulated pension plan sponsors and administrators regarding pension plan design, regulatory compliance, and all other aspects of administering defined benefit and defined contribution pension plans. Lisa appears as counsel on pension and benefit matters, including in class proceedings and in the arbitration context. She advises private and public sector employers on the pension and benefits aspects of corporate transactions and insolvencies. Lisa has been counsel to many employers on the establishment of new plans and governance frameworks. Lisa also provides advice on employment-related tax issues including executive compensation programs. Lisa has completed the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants In-Depth Tax Course. She co-authored the "Public Pensions" title of the Canadian Encyclopedic Digest 2012–2015 and designed and taught the Pensions and the Law course at Queen’s University 2009–2013. On June 30, 2017, Stelco Inc. (Stelco), formerly U.S. Steel Canada Inc., emerged from Companies’ Creditors Arrangements Act (CCAA) proceedings through the implementation of a CCAA plan. This involved the compromise of more than $2 billion of debt and the restructuring of approximately $2 billion of pension and benefit obligations.
