Guy Gilain practises in construction law and contract law. A seasoned litigator, he represents companies, general and specialized contractors, equipment suppliers and construction industry associations. Mr. Gilain provides advice regarding construction contracts, whether relative to negotiating, drafting, financing, and handling claims, expense management matters, construction permits for all types of projects, including major civic works, commercial and industrial buildings, residential complexes and infrastructures. Among others, he acted for the Algerian government with respect to preparing the contract documents and negotiating with the general contractors regarding the construction of the Algerian East-West Highway, a $11.7 billion project. He has represented clients in the resolution of serious disputes by mediation or arbitration and has occasionally acted as an arbitrator and a mediator. Mr. Gilain is the co-author, with David H. Kauffman, of The Construction Hypothec, published in 2008, a comprehensive study of the construction lien system and related construction law in Québec. He sits on the boards of various construction industry associations and is a Fellow of the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers. Recognitions include The Best Lawyers in Canada.
