Laurent is a member of the board of the Montréal office and co-Chair of the National Class Action Practice Group. He practices class action defence and commercial and insurance litigation. He is retained by the automotive industry and represents vehicle manufacturers and finance companies in consumer protection and product liability class actions. He represented the Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers’ Association (CVMA) in its successful intervention in the landmark Agropur decision of the Québec Court of Appeal. He is involved in securities class actions and has also successfully defended pharmaceutical clients in various class actions. He has considerable commercial litigation and arbitration experience, been involved in many cross-border and offshore trust/captive reinsurance lawsuits in the US and has successfully defended high-tech and e-commerce cases. He is regularly retained to defend insurance brokers and financial advisors and planners in the context of professional liability claims, both before the civil courts and disciplinary bodies. He is retained as coverage and defence counsel by insurance carriers and to defend various class actions involving pension surplus, entitlement disputes, contribution holidays and alleged breaches of fiduciary duties by pension trustees.
