Stuart Brotman is the chair of Fasken Martineau’s National Insolvency and Restructuring Group. Working out of the Toronto office, he acts in all nature of insolvency proceedings, including bankruptcy, receivership and in-court and out-of-court restructurings. Stuart regularly represents private and public companies in court as well as in insolvency related commercial transactions. He has acted for a broad range of stakeholders including debtors, creditors, suppliers, DIP lenders, landlords, pension administrators, receivers and trustees in bankruptcy. Stuart also frequently represents prospective purchasers in pursuing and completing asset sales in domestic and cross-border insolvency proceedings. He has significant experience in the mining, retail and manufacturing industries. An active speaker and regular contributor to texts and articles relating to insolvency and creditor’s rights, Stuart is a past President of the Toronto chapter of the Turnaround Management Association, a former member of the executive of the Canadian Bar Association’s Insolvency Section, and is a member of the Insolvency Institute of Canada.
