Alex Ross is a lawyer and Patent Agent based in Gowling WLG’s Hamilton office. Alex advises domestic and international clients on all aspects of intellectual property law, including industrial design protection, patent drafting and prosecution, preparation of patent infringement and validity opinions and development of patent strategy, with a focus on mechanical devices and computer and information technology. Having worked as a Senior IP Law Attorney at IBM Canada Ltd., Alex knows the challenges in-house legal departments and business units face with respect to protecting their intellectual property. He works closely with his clients to craft custom-tailored patent filing and prosecution strategies for securing North American and worldwide protection while expediting the process and reducing costs. Alex is passionate about helping companies, inventors and creators protect their intellectual property and enjoys presenting and writing on intellectual property topics to increase awareness of the issues and opportunities. He presented “Comic Book Law: What Creators Need to Know” at Fan Expo Canada, Canada’s largest comic book convention. Away from work, Alex is a competitive bodybuilder, taking first prize in the Masters Men’s Physique category at an OPA-sanctioned regional event.
