Tony is a senior partner with Gowling WLG and head of its IP Litigation Practice Group. Tony's primary focus has been in chemical, biotech and pharmaceutical patent litigation. His practice also includes trademark litigation, regulatory issues and advising on IP life cycle. Tony has been consistently recognized by The Best Lawyers in Canada and Lexpert® and other similar directories as a leading lawyer in litigation, intellectual property and biotechnology. He regularly appears in the Federal Court (both trial and appeal), as well as the Supreme Court of Canada on patent matters, including questions of patentability of life forms, patent licensing and the infringement of biotech patents. Important cases he has appeared in include the SCC decisions in Schmeiser and Plavix. Most recently he represented Novartis in protecting its patent on Gleevec and Biotech Canada in an access to information case before the SCC. Tony has received numerous awards including Patent Case of the Year 2009; Milestone case 2014; Practitioner of the Year 2014; given by Managing Intellectual Property and the Canadian Patent Impact Case of 2014 from LMG Life Sciences Awards.
