Mr. Thistle's practice is centred in natural resource project development and business litigation/arbitration. He previously served as Deputy Minister of Justice and Deputy Attorney General for Newfoundland and Labrador, was General Counsel for the Hibernia offshore oil project, and was Vice President of Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro. He has appeared before courts of all levels in Canada, and has been counsel for commercial arbitrations and mediations in Canada and internationally. He has a very active regulatory and public law litigation practice and advises clients on resource development, including oil, mining, energy, fisheries and forestry projects. He is past Chair of the Canadian Bar Association National Environment, Energy Resources Law Section. He was called to the Newfoundland and Labrador Bar in 1979, and was appointed QC in 1989.
