Ms. Hickey practises in the areas of administrative law, civil litigation, and health law, with particular emphasis on the field of self-regulating professions. She represents the governing boards of several self-regulating professions; drafts and interprets legislation and by-laws, and provides advice on legal issues arising in practice settings of self-regulating professions. She prosecutes complaints of professional misconduct, incompetence and incapacity on behalf of various self-regulating professions, including the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia and the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia. Ms. Hickey acts as independent legal counsel to adjudicative panels of various professions. She is a past president of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society and serves on several Bar Society Committees. She was appointed a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers in 2009. She was admitted to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1982 and was appointed QC in 1998.
