Joel is a senior litigation partner in the McKercher LLP Saskatoon office practising in commercial litigation and bankruptcy and insolvency. He was successful Counsel before the Supreme Court of Canada in an important case restricting the scope of Revenue Canada’s deemed trust powers: First Vancouver Finance v. Canada (Minister of National Revenue M.N.R.)  2 S.C.R. 720. Joel has been counsel on a number of major insolvency and restructuring cases. He also served as Commission Counsel on a high profile public inquiry: The Commission of Inquiry Into Matters Relating to the Death of Neil Stonechild, held in 2003/04. He has lectured to various professional organizations and is a member of the Canadian Bar Association. He is past president of the Saskatchewan Legal Education Society Incorporated (SKLESI), and a past Bencher of the Law Society of Saskatchewan. He has been listed as a leading practitioner in the Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory and has been recognized by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in Canada 2017 for Insolvency and Financial Restructuring Law in Saskatoon. He was called to the Bar in 1984 and appointed QC in 2004.
