Alcatel Optronics Acquisition

Alcatel Optronics, a subsidiary of Alcatel engaged in manufacturing opto-electronic components for telecommunications systems, announced on July 5, 2000 that it has entered into an agreement to acquire privately held Gatineau, Quebec-based Innovative Fibres Inc., a world leader in passive optical filters for the telecommunications industry. The purchase price was US$175 million in cash.

Stikeman Elliott acted for Alcatel Optronics with a team comprised of Toronto and Montreal firm members, which included Simon Romano, Melissa Ross, Robert Hogan (tax), Sylvie Bordet and Hélène Bussieres (employment). Innovative Fibers Inc. and its shareholders were advised by Paul Amirault and Deborah Weinstein of LaBarge, Weinstein in Ottawa.
