Daimler Chrysler Canada Inc. To Get New Windsor Offices

Daimler Chrysler Canada Inc. (Daimler) will soon have a new corporate headquarters in downtown Windsor having announced that it will construct a new head office on the recently expropriated Norwich Block. The contemplated project will include 12 floors of office space—8 of which will be occupied by Daimler—up to 12 storeys of residential condominium, ground floor retail stretching across the whole of the block and situated between one level underground and up to three levels above-ground of a parking structure to be owned by the City of Windsor. Canderel Stoneridge Equity Group will manage the new development under a partnership agreement with Daimler and the Windsor City Counsel.

The project is the result of two years of negotiation, and gained final approval at a City Council meeting on Monday, June 12, 2000.

Barry Halliwill, General Counsel for the City of Windsor, worked with Stephen Waqué of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP with respect to the expropriation of the City block and with Thomas Macdonald of Goodman Phillips & Vineberg in connection with the negotiation of the various project documents. Assisting Mr. Macdonald were Donald Pierce, Q.C. and Ken Herlin. Canderel Stoneridge Equity Group’s lead counsel was Rod Seyffert of Smith Lyons with Harold Little of Jacques, Little handling the negotiations for Canderel Stoneridger. Daimler was represented by Murray Shopiro and Stephen Iczkovitz of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP.
