Lafarge Sells Centennial Concrete Pipe & Products Joint Venture

Lafarge North America Inc. announced on December 24, 2001 the sale by Lafarge Canada Inc. and its partner of their joint venture, Centennial Concrete Pipe & Products Inc., to Hanson Pipe & Products Canada Inc. for approximately $94.5 million. Centennial was formerly a joint venture between Lafarge Canada and Blue Circle Industries PLC.

Along with in-house counsel Michael Hyer, Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP acted for Hanson with a team comprised of Ian McBride, Mitchell Finkelstein and Todd Demone (corporate), Donald Stanbury (real estate) and Sarah Powell (environmental). Peter Shiroky of Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP advised Hanson on tax matters.

Lafarge Canada was represented by McCarthy Tétrault LLP, with a team comprised of W. Iain Scott and Robert Hansen (corporate), Marta Lewycky (real property), Douglas Thomson (environmental), Dean Palmer (employment), Gregory Winfield (pensions) and John Yuan and Andrew Silverman (tax), along with in-house counsel Ken Cathcart.
