Marubeni Metals & Minerals Acquires Additional Ownership Interest

Marubeni Metals & Minerals (Canada), Inc. (“Marubeni”), a wholly owned subsidiary of Japan's Marubeni Corporation (“Marubeni Japan”), acquired an additional 6.66 per cent undivided co-ownership interest in the Alouette Aluminum Smelter, located in Sept-Îles, Quebec, from Albecour Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of IQ Minéral Inc. (“IQM”), itself a wholly owned subsidiary of Investissement Quebec (“IQ”), for a sale price of approximately US$180 million.

This sale brings Marubeni's ownership interest in the Alouette smelter from 6.67 per cent to 13.33 per cent.

Marubeni and Marubeni Japan were represented by Stikeman Elliott LLP with a team comprising Erik Richer La Flèche, Lana Rabinovitch, Maxime Jacquin and Ma Ry Tran.

Albecour, IQM and IQ were represented by Lavery, de Billy LLP, with a team comprising Dominique Belisle, Francis Desmarais, Guillaume Lavoie and Ariana Lisio; and Aluminerie Alouette Inc. was represented by Gérard Coulombe, QC, of Lavery, de Billy.
