Oak Ridges Moraine

The first case of several current matters embroiled in the political debate surrounding the Oak Ridges Moraine has now been decided by the Ontario Municipal Board. The Township of King was successful in having the Board approve a secondary plan for King City, and dismissing the appeals of environmental and citizens groups who objected to the growth of King City, especially on the “environmentally unique” Oak Ridges Moraine. The twelve week hearing also heard from a variety of landowners and government agencies.

Jose Matera and Jane Pepino, Q.C., of Aird & Berlis acted for the Township of King in the hearings. Kelly Yerxa of the Regional Municipality of York appeared in support of the Township of King. Acting for the Ratepayers and supported by the Sierra Legal Defense Fund was Rick Coburn of Borden, Ladner Gervais LLP.
