Kaysi Fagan is an award-winning criminal defence lawyer based in Calgary, Alberta. While she defends all criminal charges from minor theft to murder, her reputation has been built on successfully defending serious drug and organized crime prosecutions. She has appeared in every level of Court in the country, including the Supreme Court of Canada.
She is a published author (Women in Criminal Justice), has a recurring role as a legal expert on an American true crime television series and is a sought-after educator and public speaker. For the last four years Kaysi has been a sessional instructor at the University of Calgary, Faculty of Law where she teaches the “Advanced Criminal Law” course. She also guest lectures for the Legal Education Society of Alberta. She is the only practicing criminal defence lawyer in Canada who has three law degrees (including two Masters) from three different countries.
Kaysi is unafraid to engage in battle, both in the courtroom and beyond. Prior to entering private practice she worked at the headquarters of the International Police (INTERPOL) in Lyon, France. She was previously a firefighter (this included finishing “Top 5” at the World Championships Firefighter Combat Challenge) and she earned a black belt in muay thai in 2012.
She recently made international news for her defence of a youth who was charged with first-degree murder in the death of a police officer on New Year’s Day, 2021.
