Matthew is a partner in the firm's International Trade and Investment Law Group. His practice focuses on international trade regulation, compliance and dispute resolution under international and Canadian law. He acts for a wide range of public and private entities on matters involving trade and investment treaties and compliance in the areas of trade sanctions, export controls and foreign corrupt practices. Matthew is the former head of the Government of Canada's Trade Law Bureau and was Canada's lead counsel in free trade negotiations with the European Union (CETA), Colombia, Peru and Singapore. He has extensive experience litigating disputes at the WTO and in investment arbitrations under the North American Free Trade Agreement. He teaches International Commercial and Investment Arbitration at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Law, and serves as Vice-Chair of the International Bar Association's International Trade and Customs Law Committee. Recognized in Chambers Canada and Chambers Global. Called to the Bar in Ontario (1990) and New York (2000).
