Neil Abbott is a partner in Gowling WLG’s Toronto office. Neil is a Certified Specialist in Construction Law (LSO) and is routinely ranked in both The Best Lawyers in Canada and The Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory. As a solicitor, Neil drafts all types of contracts including CCDC, CCA, OCA, AIA, and tenders and provides advice in terminations, completion contracts, bond, and delay claims for owners, contractors, lenders, municipalities, and universities in Canada and abroad, especially for US clients. As a litigator, Neil has argued in courts, tribunals, arbitrations, and mediations in Ontario, BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Nunavut and the Supreme Court. Neil prosecutes lien, bond, and trust claims, including receiverships; enforced contract and new home warranty and deficiency claims; acted in disputes among joint venture partners in infrastructure projects and tender and expropriation claims. Neil has expertise in solar, wind, and alternate energy, as well as geotechnical issues including grade, subgrade, tunneling, sanitary infrastructure, and building in cold weather including permafrost degradation. Neil is a frequent lecturer to engineers, lenders, contractors, lawyers, and students. He also leads the firm’s interests in India.
