Alistair Simpson

Alistair Simpson is a principal in Smart & Biggar's Calgary office. He has been advising clients on intellectual property matters for more than 30 years. His practice encompasses all areas of intellectual property law including procurement, transactions and exploitation (including licensing), US and Canadian opinion work, and enforcement and defence work (including litigation), with a particular emphasis on patents. He has extensive experience working with clients in industries related to high technology and mechanical subject matter, such as telecommunication systems, industrial machinery, and systems, including packaging equipment, agricultural equipment, injection molding technologies, energy-related technologies, and medical devices. He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in Canada, Lexpert, Who’s Who Legal: Patents, and the IAM Patent 1000. He is a fellow of IPIC; a member of CBA, LES, New York State Bar Association – IP, and the entertainment, arts, and sports law sections; a holder of a BASc (civil engineering) and LLB; a registered patent and trademark agent. He was called to the bars in Ontario in 1990, New York State in 2003, England and Wales (solicitor) in 2012, and Alberta in 2013.
