Counsel and member of BLG’s Commercial Litigation Group. In 1988, occupied the Milvain Chair in Advocacy at the University of Calgary Law School and in 2010 was the first Silas Hylak Chair in Advocacy at the University of Saskatchewan College of Law. A past president of the County of Carleton Law Association and sat as a Bencher of the LSUC for eight years. In 1984, was elected a Fellow of the ACTL and was its first Canadian president in 2003–04. Recipient of The Advocates' Society Medal, honourary degrees from the LSUC and the University of Ottawa, and the OBA Award for Excellence in civil litigation. Named as an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2011. Appointed QC in 1976. Called to the Ontario Bar in 1962. Martindale-Hubbell AV preeminent peer review rated. Recipient of the Lifetime Achievement in Pro Bono Award at the 2010 Lexpert Zenith Awards.
