Jay Kerr-Wilson, partner, is the leader of Fasken Communications Practice Group and routinely represents clients before federal tribunals, departments and agencies. He practises primarily in the areas of communications and public law, with an emphasis on copyright. He represents broadcasting, telecommunications and Internet companies in proceedings before the Copyright Board of Canada. Jay advises on issues related to copyright liability and licensing, and represents Canadian and foreign communications companies on issues related to copyright law reform. He successfully represented telecommunications companies in the Supreme Court of Canada’s rulings relating to copyright. In addition to his copyright-related work, Jay also practises before the Federal Court of Appeal and has represented the communications industry in appeals of decisions of the CRTC and the Copyright Board of Canada. He is a member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada, the Canadian IT Law Association and the American Intellectual Property Law Association. Jay is repeatedly recommended for his telecommunications law expertise in top legal publications. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1999.
