Martin Sheehan is a partner in Fasken’s commercial litigation section. He represents businesses in the areas of commercial, professional and product liability. He works with manufacturers, importers and distributors of industrial and consumer products defending them against individual and class actions following the manufacture or sale of allegedly defective products. He counsels company executives and helps them manage product recalls in cooperation with their public and investor-relations departments. He assists pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and clinical research organizations on all aspects of drug marketing. He defends a wide array of professionals (architects, engineers, accountants, bailiffs, brokers, lawyers, pharmacists, psychologists and real estate agents) against professional liability claims. He has pleaded before courts of all jurisdictions, including the Supreme Court of Canada, and is well-versed in alternative dispute resolution methods. He was president of the Québec branch of the Canadian Bar Association in 2011–12. He is frequently named among Canada’s best litigators in the areas of product liability and commercial litigation in leading legal publications. He was called to the Québec Bar in 1991.
