Counsel — Tax and Trusts. Areas of specialty include charity law, the taxation of charities and non-profit organizations, personal tax and estate planning, corporate tax, reorganizations and mergers & acquisitions. He advises domestic and international charities and not-for-profits on structuring issues, governance, fundraising, tax matters, including cross-border issues, and corporate law issues with particular reference to changes in federal and Ontario legislation dealing with corporations without share capital. He also advises on the resolution of disputes with taxation authorities. A frequent writer and speaker on tax and charity law issues, he is a contributor to Canadian Donor’s Guide, a former Chair of the OBA Charity and Not-for-Profit Law Section and a former Chair of the CBA National Charities and Not-for-Profit Law Section. On behalf of the CBA Section, he has chaired many committees and prepared many submissions to the federal government dealing with the taxation and regulation of charities.
