Alex Ross is a patent lawyer in Gowling WLG’s Hamilton office and also serves the Niagara region. Alex works with domestic and international clients on industrial design protection, patent drafting and prosecution, preparation of patent infringement and validity opinions and development of patent strategy, with a focus on mechanical devices (including fitness equipment) and computer and information technology. Alex worked as a Senior IP Law Attorney at IBM Canada Ltd. and knows the challenges in-house legal departments and business units face in protecting their intellectual property. He works closely with his clients to craft custom-tailored strategies for securing North American and worldwide protection while expediting the process and reducing costs. Alex is passionate about helping not only companies, but also individual inventors and creators, learn how to protect their intellectual property, and he presented “Comic Book Law: What Creators Need to Know” at Fan Expo Canada, Canada’s largest comic book convention. Away from work, Alex takes his interest in fitness to the next level as a competitive bodybuilder in the Masters Men’s Physique category, winning first prize at an OPA-sanctioned regional event and placing second in his height class at the 2017 Ontario Championships.
