Clifford Cole is a senior litigator in Gowling WLG’s Toronto office. He is recognized by Lexpert® and Best Lawyers for his work in corporate and commercial litigation and arbitration. He is a former and current Head of Gowling WLG's Advocacy Department (Toronto Office), current Head of the firm's Environmental Group and a former leader of the firm’s National Commercial Litigation Group. Much of his practice focuses on complex commercial disputes that arise out of the breakdown in business relationships. He was lead trial and appellate counsel in UBS v. McGoey, a 2014 decision that considered issues of corporate governance, the fiduciary duties of officers' and directors' of private and public companies and the business judgment rule. Cliff has particular expertise in matters requiring the quantification of damages and economic loss. He works closely with accounting and valuation experts. Throughout his career, he has acted for various professionals including accountants in defence of professional liability claims. His approach to litigation is strategic; his goal is to achieve his clients’ business objectives in a cost-effective and timely manner.
