D. Lynne Watt is a senior litigation partner in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office, practising primarily in the areas of commercial litigation, copyright infringement, and appellate advocacy. Lynne is head of the firm’s Supreme Court of Canada Services Group and is a leading Supreme Court of Canada agent, with law firm and government clients across the country. Lynne has been included in Best Lawyers in Canada for many years. She acted as counsel for the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada in three cases before the Supreme Court of Canada and has appeared as pro bono counsel for public interest groups in two other appeals to that Court. Lynne appears regularly before the Copyright Board of Canada on cases setting the economic valuation of copyright royalties and acts as counsel at all levels of courts in Ontario and the Federal Courts on commercial litigation and judicial review matters. She has taught at McGill University (School of Continuing Studies) and the University of Ottawa (Faculty of Common Law) and is a frequent speaker and lecturer at legal continuing education programmes. Committed to advancing the careers of younger lawyers, Lynne mentors many lawyers in and outside of her firm and was awarded Gowling WLG’s Excellence in Mentoring award in 2014.
