David is the National Leader of Gowling WLG’s Financial Services Industry Group. With more than 28 years’ experience, he practises restructuring, insolvency, distressed M&A, private equity, lending and corporate law. His practice also includes cross-border restructuring and lending transactions. Recent transactions include acting for: (i) Bank of Montreal Transportation Finance and Special Accounts Management Unit in the sale of the “Roads Division” by Carillion Canada Inc. within its CCAA proceedings (2018); (ii) Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in the insolvency, partial liquidation and restructuring of Fluid Brands Inc., Bombay & Co. and Bowring & Co. (2018); (iii) restructuring of more than $70,000,000 debt of an established Canadian agricultural conglomerate and the private sale of portion of that business for in excess of $50,000,000 (2018); Strellson AG in the insolvency, restructuring and acquisition by credit bid of Strellson Canada (2017–18) retail chain; and in the acquisition of Tilley Endurables by Gibraltar & Company (2018). David served as Global President (2016), Global Chair (2017) and Global Immediate Past Chair (2018) of the Turnaround Management Association. He is repeatedly recognized in The Best Lawyers in Canada, Chambers Global and Chambers Canada.
