Jean-Sébastien Clément is a partner in the Gowling WLG Montréal office and has been practising Indigenous law for more than 20 years. His areas of focus include matters pertaining to self-governance, natural resources, education, socioeconomic development, administration of justice, environment, land regime and health and social services. Jean-Sébastien has acted in many litigation cases, including constitutional cases before all common law tribunals, in first instance and in appeal, all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada. He has also worked with various Cree entities on a variety of matters, including major negotiations regarding the Cree-Québec Adapted Forestry Regime applicable in the James Bay Region through the Cree-Québec New Relationship Agreement, known in Québec as the “Paix des Braves.” Jean-Sébastien’s practice allows him to address private law issues for commercial entities, as well as public law issues for various Native entities such as a Native government, a Native school board, a Native police force, a Native health and social services board and various Native bands.
