Partner. Jonathan's practice focuses on class proceedings and commercial litigation. He regularly appears before courts at all levels in Ontario. He is counsel in class actions in a wide variety of areas, including product liability, employment law, public health, securities, pension matters, Crown liability, and other matters. Jonathan has been involved in many landmark cases and some of the largest class action settlements in Canada. For example, he was lead counsel in Rosen v. BMO, the first overtime case to be certified on behalf of investment advisors which has since settled. He was part of the team which obtained a settlement in the Sino-Forest class action for $117 million, which is the largest settlement with an auditor in Canadian history. He is lead counsel in Grann v. HMQ involving allegations about the Children’s Aid regime, as well as in Keeping v. HMQ regarding institutional abuse in youth Training Schools. He is also counsel in class actions against the Provincial Crown regarding lockdowns in prisons, and against the Federal Crown regarding sexual assault and harassment in the Canadian Armed Forces.
