John has very broad experience dealing with business law issues for over 35 years. He has advised many of BC’s leading enterprises in industries including mining (particularly the coal industry), terminal operations and other infrastructure, forestry, investment funds and consumer products and services. He has acted on a wide variety of transactions including M&A, IPOs, underwritings and restructurings including acting for special committees and other fiduciaries, and has extensive experience with most governance and financing structures, including trusts. He frequently advises clients on business succession, and is regularly asked to advise on significant litigation and arbitrations. John advises the City of Vancouver on significant projects. He is recognized in Chambers Canada for corporate commercial law; has been named Lawyer of the Year in Vancouver by The Best Lawyers in Canada for securities law for 2013 and 2018 and for corporate law for 2015; has a Martindale-Hubbell AV ranking; and is recognized in Lexpert® Directories and Guides. He received MA and BCL degrees (first class) from Oxford University and taught law for six years before commencing practice. He has served as Lawson Lundell’s managing partner and is an Adjunct Professor in the UBC Faculty of Law.
