Partner in the Business Law Group and co-leader of the firm’s national Energy and Infrastructure Law Groups, Mr. Dorion supervises the Natural Resources Group in Quebec and is responsible for the activities of the firm in relation to development of Northern Quebec. His practice focuses on development and financing of major projects, as well as other financing operations and privatizations. In these areas of expertise, Mr. Dorion advises companies, lending institutions, and other interveners in relation to the steps of development, financing, construction, and operation of projects in the energy, infrastructure, natural resources, and industrial sectors. Mr. Dorion acts as strategic counsel for numerous companies in connection with the development of Northern Quebec and has considerable experience in commercial negotiation and public affairs. Mr. Dorion was appointed King’s Counsel in 1992. In 2007, he was awarded the title Advocatus Emeritus by the Quebec Bar. Mr. Dorion was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1979.

On September 14, 2018, Boralex Inc. (“Boralex”), a Canadian leader in the development and operation of renewable energy facilities and France’s largest independent producer of onshore wind power, completed the acquisition of all of the economic interests of Invenergy Renewables, LLC (“Invenergy”) in five wind farms in Québec, for a total cash consideration of approximately $215 million.
On October 24, 2018, Innergex Renewable Energy Inc. completed the acquisition of the 62% undivided co-ownership participation of TransCanada Corporation in five wind energy farms in Quebec (“Cartier Wind Farms”), as well as TransCanada’s 50% interest in the operating entities of the Cartier Wind Farms, for approximately $620 million. Innergex already owned the remaining interests in the Cartier Wind Farms and its operating entities. The transaction will increase Innergex’s net capacity by 366MW.
On February 6, 2018, Innergex Renewable Energy Inc. (Innergex) completed the acquisition of Alterra Power Corp. (Alterra) by way of an arrangement agreement pursuant to which Innergex acquired all of the issued and outstanding common shares of Alterra for an aggregate consideration of $1.1 billion, including the assumption of Alterra’s debt.
On November 20, 2017, Rayonier Advanced Materials Inc. (Rayonier AM), a Florida-based leading global supplier of high purity cellulose, announced it had completed its friendly acquisition of Tembec Inc. (Tembec), a Québec forestry firm, for approximately US$962 million.
