Monica is a partner and co-Chair of the National Tax Group. Monica’s practice includes all aspects of corporate income tax including mergers & acquisitions and corporate finance. She has extensive experience and expertise in the areas of “inbound” corporate financing and acquisitions, leasing as a form of financing and financial restructuring. She has also been involved in leading tax litigation matters, including the first General Anti-Avoidance Rule (“GAAR”) case to reach the Supreme Court of Canada and the first provincial GAAR case in each of Alberta, Ontario and British Columbia. Monica is cited as a recommended tax practitioner by various publications, including The Lexpert®/American Lawyer Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada, The Best Lawyers in Canada, Who’s Who Legal and Chambers Global. She also won 2017 Lexpert Zenith Award for her commitment to the advancement of women in the legal profession. Monica is also an author and speaker at conferences on various Canadian tax matters, and is a past Governor of the Canadian Tax Foundation, a member of the Canadian Bar Association, Canadian Tax Foundation, The Law Society of Ontario and the Canadian Finance and Leasing Association – Tax Section. Monica was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1986.
