Urszula Wojtyra, a principal in Smart & Biggar’s Toronto office, practises in the field of life sciences, including pharmaceuticals and biologics, and is a key member of the firm’s litigation team. She represents innovative pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical companies in patent litigation. Drawing on her advanced technical experience and her incisive courtroom advocacy skills, she offers clients effective long-term strategic planning for their complex litigation matters. She regularly represents clients in patent infringement and validity actions, including under the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations, before both the Federal Court and the Federal Court of Appeal of Canada. She advises clients on regulatory due diligence and regulatory compliance issues. She has broad experience in regulatory matters in Canada. Before attending law school, she got her master's degree in biochemistry from the University of Toronto and worked in an immunology research laboratory in Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children. She has recently been recognized in The Best Lawyers in Canada under biotechnology law and was named as a leading lawyer in Expert Guides Women in Business. She is an associate of IPIC and member of the Women in IP Network. She was called to Ontario bar in 2008.
