Gerald Chan practises criminal, constitutional, administrative, and select civil litigation. He defends white collar criminal/regulatory cases (e.g., investigated by RCMP IMET, OPP, OSC, FSRA, Competition Bureau) during investigations, at trial, and on appeal. He litigates cases at the intersection of technology and criminal law. He represents lawyers facing negligence and conflict allegations. He has been counsel in over 20 cases in the Supreme Court of Canada (e.g., data privacy, foreign corruption, insider trading); co-editor of Digital Privacy: Criminal, Civil and Regulatory Litigation (LexisNexis, 2018) and Litigating Artificial Intelligence (Emond, 2021); co-author of Sentencing, 9th ed. (LexisNexis, 2017) and Digital Evidence: Practitioner’s Handbook, 2nd ed. (Emond, 2021); faculty member of the National Criminal Law Program and University of Toronto Faculty of Law; bencher of the Law Society of Ontario; adjudicator on the Law Society Tribunal; trustee of the Law Foundation of Ontario; president of the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers, Ontario; clerk for Abella J.
