Bill has been practising in the area of intellectual property for over 25 years. He has worked in private practice as a partner in both national and boutique law firms, as well as in-house IP counsel in the telecommunications field. He is called to the Bar in Ontario and is registered in Canada as a trademark agent and patent agent. Bill has extensive experience in all aspects of IP law, including patent and trademark prosecution, litigation, and licensing, and has advised start-ups and large companies in a variety of fields with respect to IP strategy. He has been involved in precedent setting patent litigation before the Federal Court of Canada, including in proceedings involving pharmaceuticals under the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations, as well as trademark opposition proceedings. Bill has been recognized as a leader in intellectual property in Intellectual Asset Management’s IAM Patent 1000, Chambers, Who’s Who Legal and The Best Lawyers in Canada. He is a past president of AIPPI Canada, a member organization of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property. Bill received his law degree from the University of British Columbia in 1990 after obtaining his BSc and MSc from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.
