Catherine Woods, QC is Senior Counsel for the Health Care Protection Program and defends the most significant medical malpractice claims in the province with an emphasis on obstetrical and serious brain injury cases. She regularly appears as counsel in all levels of courts including the BC Supreme Court, the BC Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada. Catherine advises hospitals on quality assurance investigations, patient confidentiality, consent to treatment, and end-of-life issues. She is a frequent lecturer and presenter on standards of nursing practice, expert evidence, and the law relating to causation. Catherine was called to the BC Bar in 1984 and appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2005. In 2017, she was named a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America. She is recognized by TheBest Lawyers in Canada for Medical Negligence and Personal Injury Litigation, and in 2017 she was named Lawyer of the Year for Medical Negligence in Vancouver.
