Christine Genge is a partner in Smart & Biggar’s Ottawa office and an internationally recognized leader in protecting patent and industrial design innovation. With extensive expertise in patent and industrial design IP and a background in mechanical engineering, she advises Fortune 50 companies and innovators on securing patent, industrial design and trademark protection. Christine focusses on protecting a broad range of technologies, from high-tech and consumer products, to oil field related innovations. She is one of a select few Canadian practitioners with the knowledge to successfully navigate the requirements of Canadian, US and European design regimes. Christine assist international clients in securing IP protection in Canada, advising on portfolio management, enforcement and freedom-to-operate, and works with Canadian innovators to secure IP protection domestically, in the US and abroad. She is a Fellow of IPIC and a liaison to CIPO’s Industrial Design Practice Committee; past Chair of the Industrial Design Joint Liaison Committee; member of the Women in IP Network; past member of the Patent Agent Examination Board; past Chair of the Ottawa IPIC Informals Group; Member, American Intellectual Property Law.
