Chris Pibus is a partner in Gowling WLG’s Toronto office. His practice touches on all aspects of IP, including patents, designs, copyright, trademarks, and domain names. Clients include consumer product producers of apparel and footwear, pharmaceuticals, natural supplements and vitamins, organic foods, alcoholic beverages, automotive products, and a number of Canadian retailers. He has extensive experience in strategic portfolio management and licensing of IP assets in Canada and internationally, and maintains a significant practice relating to counterfeiting, transshipping, and parallel imports. Chris practises before the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal, and the Ontario Courts. He has appeared as counsel of record in over 50 reported cases and has represented clients before the Canadian Trademarks Office on hundreds of contested matters. In 2004, he was appointed a panellist for WIPO’s domain name panel in Geneva, writing over 220 decisions and developing a substantial practice in domain name disputes. Since 2008, Chris has lectured on trademark litigation at the McGill University/ITIC trademarks program.
