Chris Pibus is a partner in Gowling WLG’s Toronto office. His practice touches on all aspects of IP, including patents, designs, copyright, trademarks, and domain names. Clients include consumer product producers of apparel and footwear, pharmaceuticals, natural supplements and vitamins, and organic foods; alcoholic beverages; automotive products; and a number of Canadian retailers. He has extensive experience in strategic portfolio management and licensing of IP assets in Canada and internationally, and maintains a significant practice relating to counterfeiting, transshipping, and parallel imports. He has appeared as counsel in over 50 reported cases and has represented clients before the Canadian Trademarks Office on hundreds of contested matters. Appointed a panellist for WIPO’s domain name panel in Geneva, Chris has written over 220 decisions and developed a substantial practice in domain name disputes. Since 2008, Chris has lectured on trademark litigation at the McGill University/ITIC trademarks program. He has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in Canada, The Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory, BenchmarkCanada, and WTR – The World’s Leading Trademark Professionals. The World Trademark Review selected Chris for inclusion in the 2021 edition of WTR Global Leaders.
