Admitted to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1982. Partner in Burchells LLP since 1988. Practises in the areas of corporate commercial law, bankruptcy and insolvency, and Aboriginal and treaty rights. Counsel for many insolvency practitioners in Nova Scotia and for many Aboriginal organizations in the Maritimes. Has tried a wide variety of cases in the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Court (Trial and Appeal), the Nova Scotia Supreme Court and Appeal Court, and the Newfoundland and Labrador Court of Appeal. Bruce has written and presented on all areas of his practice. Member of Nova Scotia Supreme Court Justice’s Bankruptcy Committee and has acted as counsel to the Nova Scotia Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals. In 2005 and 2007, Bruce was elected as a member of the Council of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society and served on the Complaints Investigation Committee from 2005 to 2014. Bruce has been continuously active in the area of Aboriginal and Treaty Rights, including on governance and development issues, since 1983.
